Judy Beck Grant Making an Impact Earlier this year , the District announced six recipients of the first annual Judy Beck Grants , honoring her environmental legacy and 32-year service as park board commissioner . These grants will help new generations of conservation leaders to continue the great work and legacy of building and strengthening our local communities .
Grant funding was used to launch a partnership with Monarchs in the Rough , an international initiative that works with golf courses to strengthen monarch butterfly habitats . Glenview Park Golf Club added a half-acre of milkweed plants throughout the golf course with signage posted to highlight and educate on monarchs and these small ecosystems . Residents can experience the fascinating metamorphosis of the monarch butterfly .
Park Center Preschool made enhancements to its STEAM ( science , technology , engineering , art and mathematics ) program by making the classrooms more interactive with hands-on-learning . Children created a splatter-painted STEAM bookcase to hold current and new books , two engineer kits , a new portable light table and more .
At The Grove , funding was used to begin planting a food forest located near the school house . The goal is to develop a fully functional food forest where visitors can learn about ecological diversity .
