AUTONEWS - AA CLUB OF KENYA MAGAZINE
MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT
Committed to reducing death on our roads
I
Ag Sales & Marketing Director –
Ambrose Wambiya
am delighted to yet again en-
gage with you our members on
this forum. AA’s commitment
is to provide motoring solutions
for our members as we bench
mark with the world’s best prac-
tices. We have continued to engage
with our international partners, the
FIA and other clubs as we seek to
improve services to our members.
Developing new products and plac-
ing them in the market takes some
time but this is a course we are
committed to take to provide holis-
tic solutions for our members and
keep them safe on our roads.
Road safety status remain a major
concern in the world and more so in
our country. We are now past mid
term for the UN Decade of Action
for Road Safety 2011 - 2020 safety
but even if the targeted goal of halv-
ing road deaths may not have been
realized in our country, we are not
about to give up the fight. We will
work with road safety partners to
ensure that impressive milestones
are made by the end of the decade.
To realize these goals AA has con-
tinued to work with international
partners, FIA, IRF, Michelin and
others in promoting road safety in
Kenya. We have designed our road
safety programs around the five pil-
lars of the global initiatives and shall
continue engaging more partners
towards achievement of the national
road safety goals.
As the Association works towards
keeping our members safe on the
road, I would urge everyone to take
personal responsibility over their
own safety and that of other road
users.

WORD FROM
THE EDITOR
New safer public transport
vehicles will save lives
I
n this issue of Autonews we have
brought you a wide selection of
articles covering various aspects
of motoring and road safety. We
have introduced new sections
including two leader interviews, one
local and the other international. We
have fuel, service and tyre tips to help
you make better choices. For those
looking to venture into the Matatu
(Public Service Vehicle) business
Trevor has a couple of ideas. If you
are planning to take a trip then our
safari tips are a must read. Our lady
members will be delighted to know
how to deal with the mechanic at the
next visit.
The most deaths occurring in a
vehicle will be in public transporta-
tion. For many years local buses have
been built on a truck chassis so it is
therefore with great pleasure that we
feature news that DT Dobie’s new
purpose built bus is now available.
Built to different specs with chassis
sourced from India and Brazil and
fully assembled in Nairobi means we
can now have safer buses. This will
reduce the injury inflicted on passen-
gers in the event of an accident.
As always we have brought you
new and used car reviews starting
with the most affordable new car
currently in the market, the Renault
Kwid. You will also find why Nis-
san’s Atoti is still going strong. Be-
cause majority still buy used cars you
will read about my dilemma between
German and Japanese vehicles and if
you are looking for a third hand vehi-
cle we focus on the Toyota Avensis.
We have news from the region
looking at how Nissan and Ford are
playing their part to improve mobility
and the communities they work in.
Finally we have a guest writer who
looks at the issue of traveling with
children and the nuances that come
with it.
In the next edition we shall
introduce local and international
motorsport and its role in road safety
globally.
