Hotel boom
Over the past 15 months , Adelaide has welcomed a series of new hotels , boosting inventory in the CBD to more than 6,600 rooms . The list includes the 329-room Crowne Plaza Adelaide and the 251-room Sofitel Adelaide , which opened in November 2021 .
Adelaide is poised to welcome Westin ( 2022 ), Hyatt Regency ( 2023 ) and Wyndham Grand Adelaide ( 2024 ). These are complemented by new boutique hotels including the Oval Hotel , attached to the iconic Adelaide Oval , and the five-star Eos by SkyCity .
The InterContinental Adelaide adjacent to the ACC is undergoing a $ 32m upgrade , with completion earmarked for 2023 .
“ Adelaide has always been an easily walkable , boutique city , with an enviable climate and a globally renowned food , wine and arts culture ,” adds Damien Kitto , CEO of Adelaide Convention Bureau . “ The ability for delegates to easily connect with industry precincts and their sector leaders , along with ease of access to excellent hotels , vibrant laneways and our amazing regions mean Adelaide has become highly sought after as a business events destination .”
The ACC team is advancing the culinary experience at the venue with its innovative Honest Goodness menu philosophy , which shines a spotlight on native Australian foods and local producers .
Honest Goodness places a strong emphasis on reducing processed elements , with 97 % of featured produce sourced from local , sustainable environments .
The culinary collaboration has seen the venue team up with The Native Co ., which operates a 6,000sqm greenhouse near to the Adelaide CBD , where the company grows 16 different types of native herbs .
Marlon Motlop , native herb grower from The Native Co . comments : “ It ’ s pretty special to have our produce showcased in a venue such as the ACC . Not only does it provide a fantastic platform to showcase our produce on a large scale , but supports our education mission .”
During 2021 the Adelaide Convention Bureau ( ACB ) secured A $ 330m of business and between 2022 and 2025 members will enjoy the value of 216 business events . These include EvokeAg ; Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Annual Scientific Meeting ; Australasian Sleep Association and the Annual Conference of the International Society of Exposure Science .
The bureau ’ s rate of securing business event postponements ( 85 %) rather than cancellations during Covid is the highest in Australia .
Ozwater ’ 21
Adelaide hosted Ozwater ’ 21 at the ACC , 4 – 6 May , 2021 . Presented by the Australian Water Association ( AWA ), the event represented the world ’ s biggest water conference in 2021 .
The face-to-face conference was complemented by an online programme with four hubs , including in New Zealand , Europe and South East Asia . At 8,338sqm the trade exhibition featured 160 exhibitors .
Ozwater injected A $ 5.7m into the local economy .
