DAY 1 Fly to Sydney
DAY 2 Sydney On arrival make your own way to your hotel .
DAYS 3-4 Sydney
At leisure . The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are sure to be top of your must-sees , along with Darling Harbour . If time allows fit in some time at the beach , be it Bondi or Manly .
DAY 5 Sydney / Coffs Harbour
Travel to Coffs Harbour , a pocket of paradise with some of the state ’ s most impressive beaches , not to mention glorious national parkland . Later , meet your fellow adventure-seekers over dinner .
DAY 6 Coffs Harbour / Surfers Paradise
Head to the country ’ s most easterly point , the Cape Byron Lighthouse , which stands proud over the Pacific Ocean . Dolphins are a common sight year round , and they ’ re joined by whales during migration . The remainder of the day is free to explore or simply laze on the beach .
DAY 7 Surfers Paradise
You may choose to explore the many beaches , linger in local cafés or , join an optional tour to the Mt Tamborine hinterland , a hub for creatives and foodies . The city also breaks records for its extensive network of canals , which you can explore on a leisurely cruise ( all extra expense ).
DAY 8 Surfers Paradise / Fraser Island
Travel to Hervey Bay , the gateway to World Heritage Listed K ’ gari ( Fraser Island ). The ferry ride across the strait is a highlight , particularly during whale migration . Landing on K ’ gari , expect to see a lot of sand . This is , after all , the world ’ s largest sand island , and the only place in the world where rainforest grows from the sand .
DAY 9 Fraser Island
Zip along on a 4WD Fraser Island tour across 75 Mile Beach , all the way up to the Pinnacles Coloured Sands , Eli Creek and the Maheno shipwreck , which offers quite the photo op . Just when you thought the island couldn ’ t get any prettier , Lake McKenzie appears on the horizon a dazzling patch of blue formed only with rainwater . It ’ s a hard act to follow , but the ancient rainforest at Central Station and Wanggoolba Creek lives up to the challenge with its huge satiny , scribbly gum and kauri trees .

DAY 10 Fraser Island / Rockhampton
Back on the mainland visit Langmorn Station , where the Creed family will welcome you with afternoon tea and a tour of this immense ( and historic ) cattle property . Continue across the Tropic of Capricorn to Rockhampton , the beef capital of Australia .
DAY 11 Rockhampton / Airlie Beach
Another town with an impressive title is Sarina , Australia ’ s sugar capital . If you ’ ve ever wanted to know how sugar cane is processed and distilled , you ’ ll find the guided tour at the Sarina Sugar Shed a sweet addition to the itinerary . Continue along the east coast to Airlie Beach , the gateway to the Whitsundays , where life moves at a leisurely pace .
DAY 12 Airlie Beach
At leisure . If unwinding on a powdery beach isn ’ t for you , optional tours include a helicopter ride over Heart Reef or a catamaran cruise to Whitehaven Beach ( extra expense ).
DAY 13 Airlie Beach / Cairns
On the journey to Cairns see sugar cane fields and rolling green paddocks , all framed by the ocean and rainforestclad mountains .
DAY 14 Cairns
Take a stroll on the Cairns Esplanade before cooling off in the Atherton Tablelands , a high tropical plateau of rainforest , including the heritage-listed Curtain Tree and Millaa Millaa Falls . Explore Kuranda before getting some perspective on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway , high above the canopy of the Barron Gorge National Park .
DAY 15 Cairns
Just when you thought your outlook couldn ’ t get any better , you ’ re zipping over the Great Barrier Reef on a high-speed catamaran . Snorkel over the coral , keeping your eyes peeled for all the colourful marine life . If you prefer you can glimpse the watery world from an underwater observatory and glass-bottom boat .
DAY 16 Cairns
After a ridiculous number of beaches , world-record breaking rainforest , dreamy islands and even dreamier ocean , it ’ s going to be hard to say goodbye as you head to the airport for your onward journey .
