LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY
Hello , everyone ! We hope you are having a great summer !
We have been extremely busy with the projects these last few months . The irrigation renovation has kept us on our toes . We have made good progress thus far . The weather has cooperated for us , and we are on schedule . Our goal is to have it completed by the first week of October .
This new irrigation system will be more efficient allowing us better coverage with less water . We will no longer water any Bahia grass , which is the grass located outside of the Bermuda grass . This is the way irrigation systems are being designed today , helping to keep up with the growth of Florida and conserving as much water as possible .
We have completed 3 aerifications to date , along with an air to gas aerification . We used a 5 / 8 ” coring tine to remove as much organic material as possible . We have one more core aerification scheduled for the year and it will be with a 3 / 8 ” tine . The greens are draining much better these days , and have an improved root system . This will help us combat water saturation and create a better breathing green , which promotes better air to gas exchange . In addition , we continue to try and remove thatch by verticutting and top dressing . on the slopes better . We hope you enjoy the new addition .
We still have plans to try and fill the bunker on Deer Run hole # 16 as well .
As always , we ask that you please practice good golf etiquette by fixing ball marks , filling divots and watching where you drive your carts . It has been much better this year so far and we appreciate all your help !
Until , next time , we hope you enjoy the rest of your summer !
Best Regards ,
Jimmie Murphy
Director of Agronomy
Recently , you may have noticed a different color on the fairways . This is a herbicide that bleaches the turf . Do not be alarmed as this does not harm the Bermuda grass . This is a different mode of action for the good weed control . It is important to rotate your mode of actions . Weeds are a living thing and develop a resistance to herbicide . This happens with both post and pre-emergent herbicides . It is primarily being sprayed to control goose and tropical signal grasses . The Bermuda grass is not harmed , it just has a temporary bleaching or white look .
We have almost completed the bunker renovation on Deer Run hole # 18 . It will look and play better when complete . We will be adding “ g-angle ” sand in the bunker , which is the preferred sand on the PGA tour . It is a great sand and is called g- angle because of its shape . It packs better and does not blow away as much as the finer sand . It also stays
