AUGUST IS NATIONAL HAPPINESS MONTH August is National Happiness Happens Month ! In 1998 , Pamela Gail Johnson founded the Secret Society of Happy People and the celebration in August , Admit You ’ re Happy Month . In 2004 , rethinking the event and to combat world changes , the society made a sweeping effort to nationalize the event . The not-so-secret society has thousands of members all over the world and in 2019 outgrew the need for secrecy and became simply the Society of Happy People . The group encourages people to recognize that “ in hard times in our lives and in the world , from economic to global challenges , as well as personal and family challenges ...,” Happiness still happens .
