HATS OFF TO CENTRAL MOUNTAIN GRADUATES
While Keystone Central staff is busy working through summer preparing for the 2023-2024 school year , we want to celebrate our 2022-2023 Bucktail and Central Mountain High School graduates .
Bucktail High School held their 56th Annual Commencement on May 31st , with a graduating class of 24 students . Students walked onto the field , many holding hands , to Pomp and Circumstance , performed by the Bucktail Community Band directed by music teacher , Brandon Kahley . Principal James Poleto and interim principal Justin Evey spoke to students about their years at Bucktail . Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin also addressed the students and specifically noted Kayla Probert , Class Valedictorian , who is entering the Navy with a ROTC Scholarship totaling $ 200,000 . In her speech to fellow classmates , Probert stated that grades don ’ t define the character that they will be able to show the world . Graduates also heard from Salutatorian , Bella English , who offered , “ Some of us started together as early as Miss Lindy ’ s pre-school at the library … look back on those days with gratitude .” To end the evening , Class President , Gigi Tripp , led the class in the turning of their tassels before they walked off Dwyer Memorial Field for the final time .
The next evening , Central Mountain High School marked its 24th Annual Commencement at Don Malinak Stadium with 233 graduating seniors . The ceremony opened with the National Anthem performed by the CMHS band , followed by Class President Kelsey Burrows ’ thanking CMHS staff members for their encouragement and support during her high school year . Burrows said , “ I would like to thank every teacher that not only challenged our minds , but also pushed us to be the best versions of ourselves .” Following Burrows , classmate Eric Farrall played a musical performance titled , “ Someday I ’ ll Find My Way Home .”
Julie Schubach , Valedictorian , delivered the farewell address speaking on procrastination , noting , “ As you embark on the next stage of your life , remember that procrastination only offers temporary relief and is not a sustainable way of working . Learn how to find a balance between taking action and delaying .” She told her classmates not to be afraid to say “ yes ” when opportunity presents itself , regardless of whether it is within their comfort zone . Salutatorian Abbey Wolfe encouraged her classmates to enjoy life and recognize that it ' s a journey . “ While you focus on achieving your goals in the future , never let your perspective get so narrow that you forget to appreciate the present . The journey itself is the reward . And as I said , don ’ t take yourself so seriously . Life is better when you ’ re laughing .”
As she noted at Bucktail , Dr . Martin acknowledged three students who will be entering the military : Cameron Kline and Jacob Weaver – Army ; and Arthur McGuire – Air Force .
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the CMHS Class of 2023 by Principal Nick Verrelli .
