Bellefonte ’ s Destination Imagination Team Goes To Globals
Bellefonte Area School District ’ s Destination Imagination team went to the Global Finals this year , which was an amazing experience for these young people and their adviser ! Destination Imagination is an educational nonprofit dedicated to inspiring the next generation of innovators , leaders , and creative problem solvers . Each year they develop STEAM-based challenges and host competitions for kids of all ages . After spending months preparing a solution to one of the challenges , teams present their solution at the state level . Teams that win at states are invited to attend Global Finals — the world ’ s largest celebration of creativity ! This year it was held in Kansas City . The adviser , Mrs . Jackie Wynkoop , answered a few questions on her experience at the Global Final competition .
What was your experience like as the adviser with taking the team to Kansas City ?
It honestly was an amazing trip ! It didn ' t even feel like I was chaperoning . We all had so much fun meeting other teams and exploring all that Kansas City had to offer -- including amazing BBQ !
What was the event like ?
Global Finals was like nothing I ' ve ever experienced . It ' s marketed as the " World ' s Largest Celebration of Creativity " and I can say that it definitely felt like it ! It was quite the production ! During the Opening Ceremony , our team was invited to walk in the Parade of Nations representing the state of Pennsylvania . It was incredible to hear the crowd screaming for us ! We also got to take in an amazing light show , watch aerial artists perform , enjoy a magic show , and strut our stuff in the event ' s famed Duct Tape Fashion Show .
What was the team ' s favorite part of the event ? The team ' s favorite part of the experience was getting the opportunity to meet kids from all over the world ! There were teams from Mexico , China , Turkey , Indonesia , Guatemala , Qatar , and Ukraine -- just to name a few ! They also engaged in some pretty epic pin trading , which is a pastime of the program . One of the members of the team , Brady Wynkoop , said this about his experience at the Global Final event , “ The trip to Global Finals was a very fun experience ! We got to explore Kansas City and meet people from all around the world . It was also fun to compete with the best of the best ! We really want to go again next year !”
