Typical Afternoon Dismissals School is dismissed each day by 3:05 PM . ( Early dismissal time is 1:00 PM .) It is important that those who are responsible for picking up the students make every effort to arrive on time .
Elementary students should be picked up at the right-hand entrance of the building . Parents will wait outside the building during pick-up . At 3:00 , parents will be permitted to enter the foyer in a single-file line to check in with the teacher on duty before receiving their children . In the case of inclement weather , please be sure to dress appropriately while you wait outside for the dismissal staff to be in place ! ( See the traffic pattern map ). Each elementary family will be issued one unique number ( printed on two dismissal tags that can be attached to your key ring , if desired ). Whoever is picking up your elementary student ( s ) must present the dismissal tag or a photo of the dismissal tag to the teacher on dismissal duty . ( Please take a photo of your dismissal tag so that you always have it on hand and can send a copy to anyone you may need to pick up your student .) Please show your dismissal tag to the teacher on duty when greeted so that we can record that we have safely dismissed your child to you .
Middle and high school students will be released at the back door by the parking lot of the McLain building . Students must remain inside the lines of the painted box on the asphalt located at the back door until they see their ride has arrived . Students are not permitted to “ hang out ” in the parking lot , as this is a safety risk . Parents are welcome to park and supervise their McLain students on the field area if they wish to allow their students to socialize under their direct supervision . Please remind your student that the playscape is only designed for students up through Grade 5 .
Dismissal Notes : If your child will be going home with a friend after school , we must have a note from both you and the parent with whom your child will be riding . If an alternate ride arrangement is necessary , we require a note from you indicating the adult ’ s name and relationship to your child . S / he may be asked to provide some form of identification . If a last-minute situation does not allow you time to notify us in writing , please call the school office as soon as possible .
Dismissal Safety Tips 1 . Monitor your speed ! Please remember to drive slowly , stay alert , and watch for pedestrians , especially small children ! 2 . Stop for pedestrians ! Please remember to stop for pedestrians at all crosswalks . 3 . Supervise your children . Students must not be permitted to play on the playground or socialize on the field after school without a parent / guardian accompanying them .
4 . No basketball is permitted on the blacktop directly after school . The parking lot play area , including the basketball hoops , is not available until 3:30 PM ( when traffic is significantly reduced ). Please do not allow your child to play on the blacktop during this busy pick-up time , as this is a safety issue .
5 . Students are responsible for following school rules while playing on campus , even when under parental supervision .
6 . Students are not permitted to play beyond the oak tree line ( as the field extends toward the McLain building and Main Street ); they must never play around the McLain building .
Volunteer Driver Applications We need parent drivers for a variety of reasons throughout the school year . It is important that every driver complete the Approved Driver Application . CLICK HERE to download this form , which can also be accessed on the CCS app . Please note that the State of Connecticut now requires us to conduct a DCF Background Check on all volunteers , so a third page has been added to application packet . It would be much easier for our teachers , coaches , and the school office if every potential parent driver completed this application at the beginning of the school year even if you end up not serving as a driver during the year .
