THE CAT CAME BACK “Thought she was a goner, but the cat came back.” This reporter has used that saying a million times over the years, but a while ago it came true in Lennoxville, Que. Last March, we reported on a major fire that destroyed Pet Connection’s grooming room, as well as the room that Pet Connection owner Jen Young had close to 40 cats waiting to be adopted. That March night, a cat by the name of Wilma escaped into the night when firefighters entered the building. The next morning, all cats were accounted for except Wilma. Some people said Wilma would never survive the fire–Jen Young said “No! She just ran away, and she is fine.” Jen then started her search around Lennoxville and the many trails behind Blue Seal. She put Wilma’s photo on social media. Many Wilma sightings came in, with as many as 20 per day. Jen looked into every sighting. She wasn't giving up. A lot of leads took her to Oxford Crescent, which is a group of apartment buildings just off College Street in Lennoxville. While some of these cats looked like Wilma, they weren’t her. The beginning of July, a tip came in and the photo certainly looked like Wilma. Jen went and checked it out. She was able to get close enough to scan a micro chip in her ear–and yes, it was Wilma. She would say her name, and the ears perked up. She was thin and had fleas and mites, but other than that she was fine. Wilma was taken to Jen’s house to be taken care of. We stopped in last Saturday at Pet Connection and Wilma was there. Still on her treatments for fleas and mites, but happy to be home. Jen never gave up with the search for her, and it paid off four months later. Wilma will soon be back in the Pet Connection’s “Kat Kove,” enjoying life with her friends. One thing that was learned from this is to never given up on an animal. –Corey Bellam “THERAPIE BEAUTE” SALON OPENS This week, while in Lennoxville, we stopped in at a new business that started Aug. 1 on Queen Street. TerryLynn Bachand, 20, has always had a dream of opening up her own hair salon and on Aug. 1 her dream came true as she opened Therapie Beaute, right in the heart of Lennoxville. We went to see TerryLynn on Tuesday to find this young businesswoman hard at work cutting and styling hair. TerryLynn isn't new to the hair salon business. She has worked in Waterville, Que., for a couple of years now, but she decided she wanted her own business. She grew up in Lennoxville and knows everyone there, so it was the perfect location for to open up Therapie 20-year-old TerryLynn Bachand has opened a new hair salon, Therapie Beaute, on Queen Street in Lennoxville, Que. TerryLynn wanted to get her business in full swing before the students come back to Bishops University after summer break. We asked if she had many appointments booked. She said she was full. We was there for about an hour and she had three folks come in, so we guess she is already a busy young lady. She hopes to bring new life into Lennoxville with her salon. This salon isn't only for hair, though. Visitors can get their nails done, get eyelashes and even over in one corner buy hand made jewelry. This seems to be the perfect stop for any woman, young or old. TerryLynn encourages anyone to stop in at the salon or make an appointment at (81 933-4222, or you can check it out on Facebook under “Therapie Beaute.” –Corey Bellam LANCASTER FARMERS’ MARKET The summer has been productive, and, at the Lancaster Farmers’ Market, it is very apparent. Squash, corn, tomatoes, broccoli, and so much more. Besides produce, there are a variety of crafts, from designer pens, to stained glass, to woolen goods, and so much more. To sweeten the deal, every week the market brings free live music. This upcoming Saturday, Aug. 6, Paul Aikan from Sheffield, Vt. will be playing at the Lancaster Farmers’ Market from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Paul has been playing guitar for quite a while, playing finger and pick-style acoustic guitar with vocals. Paul will entertain with a wide range of music “from all those hits that everybody hates to obscure tunes that nobody knows.” The Lancaster Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday until the beginning of October from 9 (Continued on page 15) The Lennoxville Farmers’ Market is always a hit every Saturday, with a variety of leafy greens and other fresh produce to choose from each week.
