Music Day

Fet Lamizik

Hey June, don’t make it bad, take a sad song and make it better… June is the month of musical celebration sounding on the 21st. Basically there will be an outburst of creativity and sounds. Music days organised in educational centres as well as by councils, municipalities and malls. My farthest memory of music day was in kindergarten being on stage with a triangle and singing a duck sort of song. Next was in last grade of primary education with a cover of the 4 Non Blondes - What’s Up, mumbling the verses, knowing only lyrics of the chorus and screaming almost yelling it out with the help of a fan. That was epic.

After entering the college I joined the Music Club in 1998 and had the chance to participate in the music days organised.

My first appearance on stage was with a cover of Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World. Opportunities were there each year to perform, to give and to experience some thrills only live performance can trigger. I remember a shy guy on stage and strumming Blur - Song 2. Everyone did not bother about the verses and awaited the chorus by chanting full voice “Woohoo”. Before writing my piece and till now I am listening to that song, not the original version but the live cover one from Louise Attaque & Dionysos on Taratata Show. It gives me the same thrills and natural smile I had on that concert. The way the whole crowd has gone wild and rocking.

My first solo at the conservatory was on Music Day and it was West Side Story - Maria. I was so tensed before getting on stage but while stepping in the auditorium I felt comfortable as the lights were dimmed not showing the faces of the assistance. I could hear each note, I played with the volume, gave the intensity coupled with the meaning of the song and hit the high notes blasting on that name “Maria”. We have been also on stage as a group called The Select Singers making covers mostly medleys and songs arrangement in SATB. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen is still fresh in my mind with the string ensemble accompanied in the rock part by a wonderful guitarist who left us mouth opened during his solo in the rehearsals.

Here it is chaps. These are my besties and I know there are more to come. Music nevers ends, and even if it is silenced, it can still sound in our head. Bonn fet de lamisik!.
