The 2 Rotten Scoundrels production duo have been working their way up in the underground scene and now have an upcoming track with Selena Mai titled "Do I". The single is really different to what's out there right now, a little bumpy, and then you've got interesting dips with the little sounds. The vocals are simply gorgeous creating a great contrast against the rhythm. In the lead up to the release, Ruby got to chat with the guys about their music journey.

1. How did you guys each get into the music scene and come together?

Matt: I have started DJing about 8 years ago and got into production about 5 years ago. I started off as a House DJ around the South East and took the natural step to production. I met Jamie through my Sister and we basically decided after the first session together it was going to work. We gel on all levels musically, both with eclectic tastes over almost all genres between us. Collectively the music we make as 2RS is something I don’t think we would have ever gone towards on our individual paths, it’s certainly music we love to create and it’s an organic process, which is why each track is different from the next.

Jamie: I got into DJing at 14 and was playing strictly Drum & Bass music back then in 98, I guess I liked it more hyper as a kid! Over the years I’ve grown and got to love many styles for many reasons. Right now, for me the UK Bass scene is coming with the freshest sound, there is a lot of variation and original ideas. We ended up linking with music through Matt's sister, she encouraged us to get together and make music, I was doing my Drum & Bass thing, Matt was doing his House, but the differences in styles we individually have are what make 2RS!

2. What are the ideas & inspiration behind "Do I?” with Selena Mai?

Well, really we wanted to go back to a time when the UKG sound was prominent with the soulful singing, the crisp live guitar, it’s just on a pure vibe that we both love. On purpose we kept the track minimal and stripped down, letting Selena’s vocals take the main focus, she really drives the track and her vocals are perfect for this style. We could of gone bonkers with the bassline and effects, but ‘Do I?’ is not trying to be that kind of track, we wanted to have an up-to-date sounding radio friendly song that was clearly inspired by 2-Steps golden days.
