Interviews Troy Hudson
She is over half way through releasing her 5-part visual EP 'P.Y.T Protect Your Throne) on My-Ish Music. The first track was released on Tuesday 2nd Dec and the 2nd track 'Predicament' ft rapper Incisive dropped on 16th Dec on Link Up TV and the 3rd track 6th Jan on Clash who named her as 'One To Watch' with "supple vocals worthy of Mary J Blige". Each video leads to the next part of the story leaving everyone in anticipation for the next one, and following her on her journey through the trials and tribulations of love, life and emotion. 'Head Over Heels' from the EP is Sarah Jane Crawford's record of the week on 1Xtra, week beginning 19th January.
Troy was previously part of girl group RD who were together nearly three years and signed to Universal/Polydor, where she excelled and became the accomplished singer, songwriter and performer she is today taking influences from the likes of Brandy, Mary J Blige, Aaliyah, Teedra Moses, Jhene Aiko and more. Her sound fuses hip hop, r&b, soul, and pop which gives her a sound reminiscent of the 90's era. Taking it old school there are not many R&B singers out there like Troy in the UK and she has stepped out on her own confidently with this visual EP project to create something different.
“Head Over Heels” filmed in a diner setting has a fun contemporary vibe with the female lead being madly in love. There is also a humorous element with the side character, perhaps an understated insight into the next track..
“Predicament” addresses the male lead with the tone taking a deeper mood. Could he be in the wrong, or is he just misunderstood? This is almost a conversation between the characters. And again we have the last shock moment extending the story..
“Never Hurt Me Again” shoots forward to the couple’s big day, but will it be a happy ending? This part is the story of the bride-to-be thinking over the relationship and making an important decision..
