Knuckle Touch
It was only a few weeks ago when I was given the “All Aboard” to join the fantastic four that makes up Audiation Magazine. After reading a couple issues and seeing that there is a high majority of dance and house music included in the magazine, (both genres I am completely unfamiliar with), I started to do my own research. Figures. Not only is the place that I was born and raised the home to jazz and blues, but it curated a little thing known as house music. Chicago, man…full of surprises.
Frankie Knuckles was the first disc jockey to start spinning synthesized music with pop and disco at The Warehouse, a dance club in Chicago. That is where the name ‘house’ music came from. The Godfather of House Music was at Warehouse for five years, until he opened his own club in Chicago called the Power Plant in 1982. He then turned to break into the UK in Delirium where Chicago house artists were in high demand.
Alright now, reading research about this guy can really only tell me so much. Wanting to listen to the style of his remixes and what gives him the title “Godfather of House Music,” I dug deeper. Here are my favorite tracks of his.
