And when Gee drove away Darn felt a bit mad.
And said to himself, “Darn, I wish I had!”
Gee looked at his children and wife with a grin
Looked at his bank book, looked at it again!
His struggle was over – he’d opened the lid.
And said once again, “Gee I’m glad I did!”
(Part Three – Looking Back)
Many years after Gee made his mark
Two elderly gentlemen sat in the park
Each knew that his journey was nearing its end
And reflected on the life he had spent
Gee-I’m-Glad-I-Did remembered a life of success,
Opportunities, challenges, and great happiness
And with peace in his heart he looked at his friend
And said one last time, “Gee I’m glad I did!”
But, Darn-I-Wish-I-Had recalled a far different life
Loaded with worries, failures, and strife.
Filled with “I can’t do that’s” and “that can’t be done’s”
Then he thought of his friend and all he had won.
And as his old heart grew overwhelmingly sad
He said one final time, “Darn! I wish I had!”
