city cemeteries. When I was investigating in college, and also out in California, the police regularly patrolled all the cemeteries looking for vandals and couples who wanted to be alone. While many people are more broad-minded now, and you have your ghost hunting equipment with you, you may find that local law enforcement doesn’t share your interest or passion in the paranormal. A phone call to the city office is all it takes to find out if visitors are welcome. If the cemetery is of interest, like - oh let’s say cemeteries in Hollywood, I can guarantee that there will be a paranormal tour offered somewhere in the city. People who seriously offer these tours are always glad to have new talent join the hunt.

Remember that those you seek were once alive. It has always been socially unacceptable to be disrespectful to the dead. Reverence should be a part of any investigation. Respect relatives of those buried there. If someone is there mourning a family member, be polite. Again, realize that because of personal beliefs the relative may ask you to leave. If you can be gracious enough to support their request, you give credence to all paranormal investigators.

When it comes to the whole equipment thing, don’t be taken in by someone who tells you that you have to have a certain brand of meter; or don’t trot into a ghost hunting store and expect to pay bargain prices for your equipment. My EMF meter came from electronic supply store at half the price the ghost hunting sites were charging. Any digital camera (including the one on your phone) works just dandy for photographing ghost. People have had spectacular results with disposables. Same thing goes for EVP work – a handheld tape recorder or small memo recorder works just fine. A fun thing to play with is the number of phone apps, both iPhone and Android, that interact with the paranormal.

I have had great luck with SpudPickles Ghost Radar. Do realize that the paranormal can have a serious effect on electronic equipment.
