The question then becomes this. How can each of us determine what our ethical protocol should be? This is no simple process. Ethics develop and grow over time. We base our ethics on our cultural perspective and personal philosophy as well as our particular modality. There are few clear black-and-white rules, and many questions to consider.

Merriam-Webster defines “ethics” in part as “the principles of conduct that govern an individual or a group,” and “a guiding philosophy.”

Sadly, some metaphysical practitioners operate without ethics. Sometimes, as with the many Gypsy psychics who use fear to extract expensive gifts from their clients, this is intentional. Other times, practitioners act unethically simply because they fail to explore their own moral philosophy and to create a personal code of ethics.

In metaphysical practice, ethical questions can fall into a number of categories. Those categories include fair exchange, confidentiality, compassion with integrity, respect, excellence and boundaries. I f we examine our feelings about each of these topics, we will be well on the way to clarity about our ethics.
