I imagine that this sounds a bit over the top and a bit ridiculous. Good I did that to make a point. What if for one moment we were all alone, each of us on our own quiet beach and could walk outside into the sunshine totally naked. Bear with me a moment. We would feel the suns warmth. We would feel the fresh air rush across our bodies. We would be free of any pretense or garments to prevent us from being transparent. What if we saw ourselves in our own transparency?
Consider the ramifications if for one week everyone realized the true value if just being who they are, right now, at this moment. I mean, to really to take in their value without all the trappings we hide behind. I know this can be intimidating and very scary to do. Granted that is the job of media but we must be wise in what we believe, accept and embrace as truth, honesty, and good intentions. The public at large has allowed the media to define who we are, what is valuable, what beauty is and most importantly what we need to do to be loved. It is easy to be sheep. When we abdicate our responsibility and ownership those we give it to give us much in return for that surrender, but it is far from a fair exchange. I am not saying that all the things being offered are bad or wrong. As a whole they are not; however, “things” alone cannot give us validity. Only we can do that. We must be well informed consumers and be aware of the ideologies that we believe. If I wanted to build a home I knew I do not possess the skills I would do research to find the facts. So when it comes time to make those decisions I have all the facts to make the best choices. That is one way to take ownership and responsibility.
The next time you see a commercial about something you really feel you have to have, consider what area of your emotions they are appealing to. Often what they are saying and what they are implying are two very different things. That is why they have to put disclaimers at the bottom of most commercials. They realize the public is beginning to become aware.
