Fenris and the Moon

It’s a full moon ritual; everyone is excited and solemn at the same time. Moon nights bring back thoughts of childhood, romances; evenings by the fire with friends….The ceremony is short and sweet; thanking the goddess for another month of abundance and hope. We ask that she give us her energy in which we will share with one another. We give back. The structure of the ritual is known by all as we follow a repetitive pattern of praise and thanks, ending with an affirmation for one another…

“….as above, so below, as the universe, so the soul, as without, so within…May the love of the goddess be ever in your heart…”

Everyone sits around the bonfire and a steady rhythm begins as the priest beats his open-hand against his thigh…

”Hail to thee o’ brightest moon!”

And in response others sing,

“Hail the moon, hail the moon!”

And the Priest responds,

“All the stars are shining bright,”

and the chorus becomes louder…

“Hail the moon, o, the moon!

Shifting, turning, waxing, waning.

O, the moon, hail the moon!

Storm moon, Corn moon, sun moon, blood moon.

Hail the mother moon!”
