HOW TO HEALTHILY KEEP OUR CHILDREN BUSY DURING SCHOOL VACATION

School year is almost over, vacation time is around the corner. No more teachers, tutors, homework, quizzes etc. It’ s now time for the much awaited vacations … For 2 months, our children will be‘ idle’, exposed to all kinds of things( friends, TV, video games …). It is thus imperative that we as parents occupy our champions during that time.

We can make plans, but the most important is to choose activities that will profit them while honoring our Heavenly Father in their lives. Below is a proposed vacation plan, set for six weeks from the time school ends.
1) FULL REST WEEK Needless to remind ourselves how trying a school year can be. That is the reason why we must allow our champions to fully rest. As the Bible says, God Himself rested from all His work( Genesis 2:3). So we will start by giving those confiscated toys back and avoiding any pressure so they can have free time. We will allow them to sleep and wake up as they please, accept TV time and play-at-will.
2) CLEAN AND TIDY-UP WEEK Our Heavenly Father is a God of order and His Holiness rimes with Cleanliness. It is thus important for us to teach this to our champions, and when better than vacation time? Under the supervision of an adult, each day will have a designated room to clean. During the weekend, parents could join their children, which will motivate them even more. Let’ s not forget to encourage, congratulate, and even reward them.
3) COOKING WEEK The kitchen remains one the favorite rooms of children. This is a major point to take advantage of. We should ask them what they want to eat so as to set a weekly menu. Each day will correspond to a meal of their choice and for which they will help cook. This will enable us to detect, awaken, or even develop their hidden culinary talents.
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22: 6
4) OUTDOOR & DISCOVERY WEEK Both instructional and educational, discovery outings enable them to have fun and be better equipped to learn. We can take them to tourist attractions, the fishing docks, the airport, a farm, the movies … follow your inspiration as long as at the end of the day the child learns while relaxing, which will glorify our God.
5) READING WEEK“ Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 Reading is a powerful way to learn. It connects us to the world and through it we travel and discover other peoples and cultures. It is therefore important to know how to choose the books they will read, because our ultimate goal is to healthily occupy our children to the glory of Christ. We can take them to the bookstore and purchase magazines, comic, discovery, adventure or cooking books, as long as they report back on what they read and you reward them for their effort.
6) GETTING READY FOR BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK Finally, it is important to prepare the children for back to school. We should thus gradually reduce their games and other activities, and lay emphasis on reviewing lessons, especially for our champions’ challenging topics. For those children who had difficulties during the school year, setting them up with a tutor or in summer classes should be considered.
PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES( SPORTS – GAMES) Playing is essential to a child’ s development and welfare. When children play, they grow. They think, solve issues, express themselves, move, and collaborate with each other. As for physical activity and sports, it not only helps with the child’ s muscular development, it is also embedded in children’ s psychomotor training. For children that are hyper, sports enable them to use their energy and learn self-control.
These two activities will be present throughout vacation time. Finally, those are ways to help you keep your children busy during their vacation. Summer camps, play centers, sports centers etc. should not be dismissed because they develop your children’ s autonomy and accountability.
