Explanation Cang Zhu , Xiang Fu , Zhi Ke and Hou Po eliminate damp , promote qi circulation in the chest and harmonise the middle jiao . Zhi Ban Xia , Xing Ren and Jie Geng eliminate damp-phlegm and regulate the function of the Lung to relieve cough and tightness of the chest . Fu Ling and Chen Pi activate the Spleen , eliminate dampness and resolve phlegm in the Lung . Yu Jin and Hong Hua harmonise the collaterals of the Lung to promote qi and blood circulation and prevent blood stasis . Ge Gen ascends clear yang and descends turbid yin to eliminate dampness in the Spleen and resolve phlegm .
Modifications
• If there is headache , add Bai Zhi ( Angelicae dahuricae Radix ) 10g .
• If there is much emotional stress , add Shi Chang Pu ( Acori tatarinowii Rhizoma ) 10g and Yuan Zhi ( Polygalae Radix ) 10g .
• If there is muscle pain , add Qiang Huo ( Notopterygium Rhizoma seu Radix ) 10g and Sang Zhi ( Mori Ramulus ) 10g .
• If there is profuse expectoration of white phlegm , add Bai Jie Zi ( Sinapis Semen ) 10g .
• If there is cough with copious watery phlegm , add Ting Li Zi ( Lepidii /
Descurainiae Semen ) 10g .
• If there is obvious loss of smell and taste , add Cang Er Zi ( Xanthii Fructus ) 10g and Xin Yi Hua ( Magnoliae Flos ) 10g .
• If there is intense nausea , add Sha Ren ( Amomi Fructus ) 3g and Zi Su Ye ( Perillae Folium ) 5g .
• If there is severe diarrhoea and abdominal bloating , add Huo Xiang ( Pogostemonis Herba ) 10g and Shan Yao ( Dioscoreae Rhizoma ) 10g .
Acupuncture treatment
• Neiguan P-6 and Gongsun SP-4 descend the Lung qi and relieve cough ( even method ).
• Chize LU-5 and Feishu BL-13 , the he-sea point of the Lung channel and the back-shu point of the Lung respectively , eliminate remaining pathogens in the Lung and relieve cough and sore throat ( even method ).

• Zusanli ST-36 , the he-sea point of the Stomach channel , tonifies the zheng qi and activates the Spleen and Stomach to strengthen the body ( reinforcing method ).

• If there is muscle pain , add Waiguan SJ-5 and Zulinqi GB-41 to harmonise the Yang Wei Mai ( Yang Linking Vessel ) and regulate the Shaoyang channel .
• If there is profuse expectoration of white phlegm , add Zhongfu LU-1 , the front-mu point of the Lung .
• If there is cough with copious watery phlegm , add Taiyuan LU-9 .
• If there is loss of smell and taste , add Yingxiang LI-20 and Juliao ST- 3 .
• If there is intense nausea , add Zhongwan REN-12 , the front-mu point of the Stomach .
• If there is severe diarrhoea and abdominal bloating , add Tianshu ST-25 , the front-mu point of the Large Intestine .
2 . Impairment of qi by damp and toxic heat Cough , shortness of breath , a sensation of pressure in the chest , aggravation of symptoms on exertion , low grade fever , nausea , lassitude , fatigue , loose and sticky stools , red tongue with a white or yellow greasy coating , slippery and thready pulse .
