Conversations with Lucie Rie Curated by Toby Lawrence | Drury Gallery Art Gallery of Greater Victoria | Oct 17, 2014 to Mar 9, 2015 Lucie Rie is renowned for her modernist aesthetic and functional sensibilities. The prolific studio output of the Austrian-born British potter spanned seven decades–a significant contribution to the history of ceramics in the 20th century. With works drawn primarily from the collection of the AGGV, Conversations with Lucie Rie considers the development of Rie’s work and the impact she had on her contemporaries and subsequent generations of ceramic and non-ceramic based artists, curators, collectors, and admirers. This exhibition includes works by Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, Bernard Leach, and Stephen Andrews, in addition to a recent performancebased work by British artist Keith Harrison. AGGV When it first opened in 1951, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria exhibited art in the historic 1889 mansion that is now adjacent to its seven modern galleries. With almost 18,000 works of art, the Art Gallery has the largest public collection in BC and is a vibrant and active part of Victoria’s artist community.
