Blurring of the lines

In the market today, the role of the
systems integrator is oft en overlooked.
Many perceive systems integrators as
merely equipment vendors or install
teams; however, systems integrators
should play a much more critical role
to help customers navigate the increas-
ingly complex business of media.
Today’s various formats and trans-
port methods such as fi le-based work-
fl ows and increasingly IP-based trans-
port streams have added new options
but also challenges like interoperability.
Th ese technologies are made more
complex by the additional production
methods being utilised by custom-
ers, such as “remote production” and
distribution including direct-to-home
(DTH), terrestrial broadcast, over-the-
top (OTT) and the Web.
To face these challenges, systems
integrators should be playing the role
of a consultant, and not just a simple
supplier, and help businesses to face the
new challenges as a partner.
