AirTies develops
Wi-Fi mesh tech
Traditionally, Wi-Fi signals originate only
from a home wireless router, which is
located close to where the broadband
connection is. However, the signals weaken
when going through walls and ceilings,
resulting in slow download speed or even
no connection to the Internet when users
are away from the main wireless router.
AirTies Wireless Networks is attempt-
ing to solve this challenge with the de-
velopment of AirTies mesh technology,
which improves the way Wi-Fi signals are
distributed throughout the home.
The solution comprises wireless ac-
cess points for users to install in multiple
locations, thereby enhancing signals and
speed of their Wi-Fi. In this way, accord-
ing to AirTies, Wi-Fi signals originate from
multiple hotspots so that every wireless
mobile or portable device receives much
stronger signal wherever they are.
AirTies Mesh technology is also in-
tegrated into its Air 7410X 4K/Ultra HD
(UHD) set-top box (STB) to efficiently
distribute video within the home.
With AirTies Mesh, Air 7410X acts as
a mesh node, providing a connection
to users closest to it, while reducing the
re-transmission overhead and improving
airtime.

Nagra’s DNA: Content protection
and innovative middleware
Nagra is showcasing two key product lines
for visitors at CommunicAsia2017 — one
consists of tools for content protection, and
the other features middleware applications
that enable content to be managed and
pushed onto all devices.
“The DNA of the company has always
been to support our customers — whether
they are pay-TV operators or content pro-
ducers — in securing their content,” says
Stephane Le Dreau, general manager, South-
east Asia, Nagra.
“The company has built its forte and
strength by securing content and making
sure that the solutions that we provide for
broadcasters prevent their content from be-
ing taken out and pirated.”
Indeed, at booth 1J2-12, the company
is displaying solutions designed to protect
and secure content in any platform. These
products include:
n A range of innovative and cost-effec-
tive OTT and hybrid STBs by SmarDTV: HD
and 4K devices integrating the latest HDR
technology and powered by the company’s
OpenTV Suite platform while ensuring access
to the latest Nagra CAS, DRM and NexGuard
forensic marking.
n The Nagra Security Services Platform
which combines the company's device and
app protection technologies, anti-piracy
services and NexGuard forensic marking
techniques to provide holistic pay-TV con-
tent protection.
In the middleware space, Nagra has a
suite of solutions, which can help operators
push their content into any network or de-
vice. The company has middleware products
powering these offerings:
n TVkey, a cost-effective USB dongle that
plugs into newer model Samsung TV sets,
enabling consumers to immediately watch
their favourite pay-TV channels in 4K/UHD
and HDR using Hollywood-approved secu-
rity.
n Unified, all-screen viewing experiences
on set-top boxes by SmarDTV, as well as
popular streaming devices such as Roku and
Amazon's FireTV powered by OpenTV Suite.
n Direct-to-TV pay-TV services using
the SmarDTV CASTdongle, a simple, cost-
optimised HDMI device that turns any TV
into a connected iDTV and brings the OTT
experience back to the big screen while
enabling operators to stay in control of the
distribution and of the use of its devices
and maintain a close relationship with their
customers.
By developing such solutions, Le Dreau
sees more pay-TV operators and broadcast-
Newtec offering DVB-S2
portfolio, HTS hub options
Newtec is displaying a new portfolio of DVB-
S2X-based modems for a variety of market
and application requirements at booth 1P2-
01 at CommunicAsia2017.
Kerstin Roost, director, Strategic Mar-
keting & Public Relations, is showing visi-
tors Newtec’s DVB-S2X wideband modem
portfolio which can “easily” be mixed in a
single satellite network.
The range includes the MDM2210,
which features high throughput (100Mbps
receive/5Mbps transmit), high number of
TCP sessions (2000), optional embedded
Wi-Fi, advanced networking and wideband
up to 500 Mbaud.
Another product on display is the Dialog
Release 2.1, designed to monetise high-
throughput satellite (HTS) capacity
