HD Ultrasoft has software for ‘everything management’
Beyond traditional media asset management
(MAM), HD Ultrasoft (booth 5J1-01) offers
a unique software that Asia regional representative Nguyen Huyen Dieu describes as
“everything management”.
Officially, the product is named Extended
Media Asset Management. “Basically, it manages every aspect of producing a television
programme,” Nguyen says. It includes not
just the usual MAM functions such as media
input, editing, output and archival, but also
tasks such as equipment sharing and cost
control.
“This is not work flow, but media flow,”
Nguyen adds. “Work flow involves a set of
instructions for people. Media flow is centred
on the needs of the media. The software
manages whatever is needed to produce a
TV show,” Nguyen explains.
One useful feature is the option to edit
in low resolution, which allows editing to be
done using a basic computer. “Everything is
the same except that you cannot preview
in high resolution,” Nguyen says. “Once
you have finished editing, the software will
render your changes to the high resolution
files.”
This option is available even when
the software is used as a plug-in to other
editing software such as Adobe Premium,
which, on its own, allows only high-resolution
editing.
Another plus point is its quick and easy
set-up. “The system can be up and running
within minutes, unlike other MAM systems
that may take about a month to set up,”
Nguyen boasts. “Whatever function you wish
to add, you just ‘draw’ it into the media flow
diagram.”
The HD Ultrasoft booth is, in fact,
stacked with about 20 boxes that define the
software’s extensive range of management
capabilities.
One function not normally covered
in usual MAM software is equipment
sharing or rental. Nguyen explains: “In a TV
station, it is common for different depart-
ments to share equipment such as highend cameras, cranes, vehicles and even
manpower.
“Using our software, once you create a
new project, you can list out all the equipment and manpower that you need.
“A person in authority can then review your project to decide if it is worthwhile to allocate the resources that you
have requested.
“The costs of these resources can also
be worked out. At the end of the day,
you can know exactly how much it costs
to produce the show, what percentage of
the cost is due to manpower or equipment,
and so on. This is truly a total management
system.
“Finally, the entire system is paperless.
You can run an entire TV station without
using any paper,” Nguyen says. HD Ultrasoft
thus tags itself as “the paperless broadcast
solution”.
The America-based company’s first
customers were television stations in Vietnam.
This is HD Ultrasoft’s second time exhibiting at BroadcastAsia.
