agement and Content Delivery .
One of the biggest US broadcasters made the shortlist for the most innovative Content Management project . Disney / ABC
Television Group has implemented a real-time IP distribution system for content around its New York distribution facility , based on 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet and handling uncompressed HD for more than 200 affiliated stations . The winners of the IBC Innovation Awards will be unveiled on Sunday , September 13 .
IBC 2015 will take place from September 11-15 at the RAI Amsterdam , and is expected to welcome more than 55,000 attendees from 170 countries . Fourteen themed halls will feature over 1,700 key suppliers and innovators , while visitors can also look forward to the newly minted IBC Content Everywhere Technology in Action Theatre , which be located in Hall 3 .

TMD to demonstrate collaborative workflows

TMD will be highlighting Mediaflex , an asset management platform designed for smaller broadcast and post-production systems , through to workflow management for some of the biggest broadcasters in the world .
To accommodate this range of applications , TMD believes that it is vital that the system is flexible enough to support each user with carefully tailored and readily understood solutions and user interfaces . TMD has recently launched a number of pre-configured products as well as Chameleon , which allows each individual ’ s workstation to show just the relevant information and fields . Because the user needs only add , modify or

look at the metadata he or she cares about , the user experience is much more intuitive .
Tony Taylor , CEO of TMD , explains : “ One of the paradoxes of the capabilities of Mediaflex is that it can incorporate so much information and functionality , it can be daunting to get your head
around . It means that , although broadcasters are aware of the huge benefits of comprehensive asset management and automated workflows , they can be reluctant to take advantage because of the perceived disruption through implementation .
“ Our view is to make each user ’ s interface so tailored to their needs that it becomes a zero-hour training proposition . If each user can instinctively play their part , then the whole process becomes very powerful indeed . That is when broadcasters will truly gain from the power of metadata .”

For the first time in Europe , SGL will be showcasing new technology and third-party integration projects .
These include a full archive demonstration using the GV Stratus MAM solution . GV Stratus includes full search , archive and restore , integrated directly with Flash- Net , SGL ’ s content management solution . This demonstration will include FlashNet ’ s control of job queues directly from GV Stratus .
Earlier this year , SGL introduced Direct Connect , which allows Avid ISIS users to quickly transfer highresolution material , providing benefits when working with longer form content . The advent of 4K Ultra HD ( UHD ) and 8K formats , says SGL , has made a huge difference in terms of clarity of image , although the sheer size of files can cause bottlenecks , reducing transfer times and hindering system performance . By using Direct Connect , clips or sequences over several GBs in size can be more quickly archived and retrieved , as can shorter clips with
LiveU will be presenting its full range of broadcast video devices and workflow solutions . These include the company ’ s awardwinning portable transmission units , the small form-factor LU200 and LU500 lightweight backpacks , which were used by Sky News for its “ ambitious and wide-ranging ” UK General Election coverage .
LiveU Central , a cloud-based management and video distribution system , will also be on display . LiveCentral enables fleets of units to be centrally controlled using geolocation capabilities . A strategic collaboration with Panasonic also sees LiveU and Panasonic offering an end-to-end solution that connects Panasonic cameras with

With cloud storage playing an increasing role within archiving workflows , SGL will also be highlighting cloud-based archiving to Amazon S3 and Sony Ci Cloud . Working closely with Aspera and Data Expedition , SGL is enabling broadcasters and content owners to transfer media to AWS and Sony cloud services at a guaranteed speed , providing an additional means of storage and disaster recovery workflows .
At booth 7 . J15a , SGL will also unveil its entry-level FlashBox system . According to SGL , the highly effective content storage management system ‘ in-a-box ’ FlashBox provides all elements of an integrated Hierarchical Storage Management ( HSM ) archive . Users are not required to purchase any additional hardware or software with FlashBox , which enables smaller broadcasters and content owners to have a fully expandable archive .

v Scaling workflows for file-based video delivery
Launching a new video-on-demand ( VoD ) or catchup TV service can be a daunting task , especially when factoring in the potential growth in both content availability and consumer demand for media . New providers want to make sure their file-based workflows can scale with business growth , while well-established providers want to ensure that they can continue to meet the level of innovation , quality and reliability that customers already associate with their brand . This white paper by Elemental Technologies explains how video providers , using a software-defined video solution , can either gradually or immediately evolve from basic to advanced file-based workflows without a complete overhaul of infrastructure , and with minimal service interruption .
