Resident of the Month,
Bobby Herd
Bobby Herd was born Jan. 17, 1941,
to parents Quimby and Ora Herd in
Lutie, Missouri. Bobby has one brother.
He attended school at Gainesville High
and graduated in 1958.
Bobby married then later divorced
having two children and one grandchild.
Bobby is a veteran in the National
Guard, serving in 1963-1969. He trav-
eled to Wisconsin to complete his year-
ly duties.
Bobby worked at Lauren Cook Fac-
tory for ten years where he helped make
the big fan air moving equipment, then
at SMS college for twenty years in re-
ceiving and as a clerk.
Bobby raised fox trotter horses and
would attend the World Horse Fox trot-
ter's Breed Association shows twice
yearly in Ava. Missouri. “That is what
put Ava on the map,” said Bobby. He
also did trail rides. He had coon dogs
and enjoyed going on the hunts. Bobby
really enjoys homemade chicken and
noodles, the color blue is his favorite,
and his favorite song is “Victory in
Jesus.” Bobby is a member of Lutie
General Baptist Church. Bobby likes to
help people out if and when he can. His
Motto for life is “Live a clean life.” Bobby
enjoys gospel, country and bluegrass music.
He likes reading a good book and being out-
side as much as possible.
Bobby grew up knowing how to use a
horse and plow. He and his family planted
100 pounds of potatoes yearly using an old
iron wheel wagon and horse to pick up the
potato crop. He told about the drought of
1954 how they had let their cattle out to go
to the lake to get water and during the time
they were gone to Washington state, when
they came back they had an old stray cow in
their herd and never found the owner. Bobby
broke a lot of fox trotter horses and he re-
called riding a mustang once and when he
got to the barn that horse lowered it’s head
and dropped Bobby unexpectedly.

lations Bobby
