Journal Club December 2015 INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE The IB’s Whiplash As the rusty bell of the American School rang, a sigh of relief came out of all of my classmates. My first week as an IB student was a rather curious experience but also very rewarding. I arrived late to the school and I could see teachers with a very annoyed expression as they now have the responsibility of helping the new guy catch-up with the rest of the class. This is the third high school I attend, and I very well know that talking to new people and creating a first impression, specially at my age, requires some strenuous efforts. But in this school I received a very warm welcome from both the students and the teachers. It was rather easy to make new friends and create a comfortable environment around my classmates. The ceremony of becoming an IB student retained an aura of mystery and uneasiness but very soon enough I started to get by and felt like I belong. Excelsior! -Juan Andreu (Grade 11) Contact with Universities It is the time of the year when 12th graders are really looking into universities and what would they want to study. Therefore, they have attended university fairs such as Unitour and Shakespeare bus in Madrid. Unitour was a fair that included some of the top universities in Spain like ICADE, IE, ESADE, CUNEF and others. Shakespeare bus was a fair that showed some of the top universities in the UK like Cambridge and Kings College. However, as some of the universities in Spain saw that many students were interested in applying to their school, they came to school to guide students and to give more information about why should students apply to their universities. Some of the universities that came are ESDi, ESADE, ICADE/ICAI, IE etc. As an IB student, I would like to thank Ms. Kat (college counselor) for providing both 11 and 12 graders with the opportunity of knowing more about universities and guiding us into our future. -Jon Araluze (Grade 12) Journal Club 7
