Journal Club December 2015 UPPER SCHOOL MUN The Model United Nations Club has recently attended its second conference, taking place at Royal Russell School, in London. For some of our delegates it was the first time ever at a conference and there were meltdowns. For others it was the second or even eighth time. The delegates represented two countries, Austria and Turkey, at several committees such as SpecPol 1, Ecofin, Environment and Disec 2. The conference would last from about 9 AM to about 9 PM with breaks for lunch and dinner. Even though they did spend a lot of time working hard, the delegates enjoyed a relaxing (or not) Disco every night. Apart from meltdowns and a few panic attacks, our delegates took active part in the debates at each of their committees and some even had the initiative to speak at the General Assembly, a great accomplishment for first-timers. The delegates learnt a lot about the world outside our school, and about themselves; some found the courage to speak before 400 people, others created friendships that will last forever. The next conference our school is visiting is at Milan, and we all hope for our delegates´ success. -Beatriz Crespo (Grade 11) DECA This is the third year that the Young Entrepreneurs’ Club has been active in the school.
