Food processing sector in India has always stayed an ever growing and high profit earning one ever since it has established its roots. The sector contributes to 32% of Indian economy and is the sixth largest food marketer in the world and thus remains the largest industry flourishing in the country.
Major challenges of Food processing sector is identified as, lack of skilled manpower, poor infrastructure and absence of technology, skill gap between manpower and technology, lack of organized entrepreneurship, minimal training facilities and lack of research and development.
With steady records in contributing to Indian economy, food processing sector has faced major challenges in keeping the records better every year, so as to tackle the same and strengthen the sector, FICSI (Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative) was identified and established as a sector skill council for food processing sector by Central Government.
