different people from different cultures and areas who were ringing and emailing us to tell us how much they enjoyed the films, dinner screenings and overall experience. It is inspires us to continue to develop new, exciting and dynamic features to the festival each year.
What are your future plans for the festival?
Jessica: Anything can happen. We want to stay true to our objectives. We will always continue to The Broken Wings introduce new experiences and artistic facets to the festival and we will always support filmmaking as a Jessica: The film was lost during the war, and the print was discovered years later in a church in Lebanon. This black-and-white piece of history is filled with the passion, wisdom and artistry that is Khalil Gibran, one of the greatest philosophers of all time. I think the beauty of screening this gem is that it reflects and comments on Lebanese cinema of the 60’s, and the love for art that was evidently present from earlier decades in Lebanon. The film is a highlight in Lebanese film over the years – it says a lot about writing, characterisation and storytelling, and the cinematography allows you to travel to the world of the time it was filmed. Camille: No, but I do have many ideas for films I would like to see produced. What kind of response did the first LFF receive? Did it have the kind of impact you hoped for? Jessica: I am a filmmaker. I have been working on several notable Australian film productions for the Jessica: The LFF received a positive and successful response. We hoped people would want to come back and learn more, and that’s definitely the response we continue to receive. We had so many past three years, and have had the honour of working with some of Australia’s greatest film industry personnel. It is my ultimate goal and career – I have just completed my Bachelors Degree in Do either of you have ambitions to become filmmakers yourselves? whole in both Australia and Lebanon. Our ultimate goal is to create a dialogue between Lebanese cinema and Australian audiences and to do so in new, vibrant, engaging manners.
