Arts Guides Fall 2019 Preview: North Jersey | Page 37
In 2018, the tour included 175
art spaces. There’s no cost for the
studios to be part of the tour, they
simply have to register and list
themselves on the map. The tour
includes self-guided tours and cu-
rated art tours, but people can sim-
ply go out on their own. The web-
site includes an interactive map, a
calendar of events taking place at
art and performances spaces, and
other JCAST-related affairs.
The tour was started in 1990 by
Charles Kessler and Pat Donnelly
of Gold Coast Magazine and con-
tinued by Al Preciado and Marga-
ret Schmidt. From 1994 to 2013,
JCAST was co-sponsored by Pro
Arts, the Jersey City Office of Cul-
tural Affairs and corporate spon-
sors. Pro Arts is a non-profit orga-
nization that promotes the visual
arts and the “advancement of the
rights, welfare and economic well-
being of professional artists.” The
event is currently presented by
the City of Jersey City, the Munici-
pal Council and the Jersey City
Office of Cultural Affairs with par-
ticipating partners.
