He then tells of his wife’s apprehensive appearance at the
kitchen door, freshly bathed and dressed in comfort, her
eyes scanning every possibility in this suspicious
situation. They sat at dinner, the candles flickered to show
that Mrs. Brilliant was studying Mr. Brilliant with a skeptical
stare. He had his first fork of his second serving of the
grilled-salmon and asparagus platter when she asked,
"So, what is this revelation that you have had?"
He laid his fork alongside the plate and crossed his hands
over his lap. "Honey, I have thought and thought about
us. I’ve lost sleep over what is going on and finally, it was
like a lightning bolt and I saw clearly in that flash of a
moment....I have figured out what is ailing us.”
"Well, what is it?"
"Honey, I have come to realize why we disagree so much.
I have a real feeling as to why we aren't getting along......I
have come to the revelation that one of us is a
woman....and it is YOU!"
Mr. Brilliant ended the account there. He said little of her
reaction or the subsequent days of recuperation. I
detected that in the chapters that followed there was a
disproportionate use of the personal pronoun "I" and little
of the plural "we".
I concluded that his "revelation" was in fact and indeed, a
resolution to the relationship problems they were
experiencing....there was no further mention of it.
