Michelangelo’s works of art
In 1496, Michelangelo visits Rome where he sculpts a Bacchus by order of
Riario, and later on he claims the task to create Pieta (Mary holding dearly the
dead body of Jesus following his crucifixion) of the Vatican, in St. Peter’s
basilica. Sculpting Pieta was Michelangelo’s greatest achievement, which
played a crucial role in naming him one of the greatest artists of the
Renaissance.
