By Emily Guerrero
Learning a new language is a desire that most people around the world have, but, sometimes, it is difficult to study it by yourself or the courses are too expensive that it is difficult to afford them. However, what if I tell you that you can learn a language you want while listen to your favorite music. According to Lewis “Songs are great for self-study because they make your study sessions fun. Having fun while you study is a really effective way to learn”. (par. 7). Now that you know this it would be awesome to learn a new language thought music, right?, so make it possible by following these steps.
1.
This step is important because you will need to choose a song you really like to be comfortable while learning the new language. If you select something that you do not like, then it would be difficult for you to continue with the following steps.
2.
In this step you will be able to read both; the original and the translation, lyrics while listening to the song. While doing this, try to understand the meaning of the song.
3.
Using a dictionary is a good option to learn more vocabulary. Aslan states that mobile dictionaries, “are an important source for vocabulary teaching as well because with their audiovisual contents, mobile dictionaries provide with great opportunities in efficient and permanent vocabulary teaching.” (2) We can use our cellphones to reproduce our favorite music, and, at the same time, we could use it to have a dictionary to learn and practice more of the terminology that is in the song.
4.
Listening to the song is a perfect method to put in practice your listening skills. Moreover, while you listen to the song it would help you to know how to pronounce correctly the words.
5.
In this step you have to repeat the song until you get to sing along with the music. Understanding the lyrics is also another important step, but continue repeating till you learn the words.
