This is because there is a decision-making process in art that is no present in any other subjects. What are they going to draw? Why are they using yellow and no green? Why a sun and not a moon? Those are decisions made by the child in just seconds.

The creativity is also an important trait to develop, according to the art educator and author of numerous books MaryAnn Kohl, who said:

“If they are exploring and thinking and experimenting and trying new ideas, then creativity has a chance to blossom,” (qtd.in Hwang)

Creativity is necessary for decision makers to be able to find solutions that may be considered ‘outside the box’, by exploring every situation from each possible angle before coming to a final decision or result.

Art promotes patience and determination in children as well because in order to learn ballet, how to play a music instrument or any other artistic discipline, you must go through a continuous practice process. Learning art is a kind of a slow process that requires a lot of hard work and dedication from the learner to be achieved. She or he must be patient and will never give up if she/he wants to learn new skills.

Finally, arts lessons also benefit the motor skills, fine and gross. Just by picking up a crayon and drawing, a child is developing its motor skills by improving their hand and eye coordination and developing muscles in their fingers.

“The fine motor and gross motor skills learned in artistic pursuits, such as drawing and dance, help prepare the brain for further learning by connecting tactile and visual modalities” said the Author from The Edvocate, Matthew Lynch.

Art lessons are not just a way to fill in the schedule, art is an integral part of every single child education and it should be taken as serious as mathematics, history or biology, simply because art constitutes a vital part of culture and education. Art is as time-honored as science, it is a way to express, learn and know.
