Afternoon
Plan ahead and pack your lunch in advance such as salad
topped with a lean protein, nuts and seeds or a cup of chili.
Be sure to check your blood sugar again and track it in
your journal.
Having an active lifestyle is important in managing your
diabetes. The afternoon could be a great time to get in 30 to
60 minutes of moderate exercise. Be sure to check your blood
sugar before and after you work out, also be sure to bring a
source of sugar with you, like a banana or chocolate milk.
Evening
Be sure to eat a nutritious dinner and check your blood
sugar levels before and after your meal. Take some time in
the evening to prepare for the next day and make yourself a
healthy lunch and ensure you have healthy snacks.
Relax
Take some time for yourself to rest such as visiting friends,
reading a book, doing a yoga class or watching a movie. This
will help you live a normal life and relieve any stress you may
be feeling from having diabetes.
Be sure you are getting seven to nine hours of sleep at night.
Getting enough sleep is important for people living with type 1
diabetes as a lack of sleep could throw your blood sugar
levels off.
“I find I have better control of my
diabetes when I eat, sleep, and take
my insulin at the same time each day—
sure, some days I can’t do that, so I just
adjust my day so I can still have control
over it. It’s so easy to slip up (and it will
happen). I just adjust things and get
back on track.”
