A Typical Day
9
Being diagnosed with diabetes can be overwhelming and
confusing once you receive the diagnosis. Living with diabetes
is not convenient but it is manageable if you plan ahead, and
follow your personal schedule in which you and your doctor
have developed. Each day will be different from the next,
simple changes to your daily routine will help you get on track
and allow you to live your best life.
Morning
Once you rise in the morning it is important to make the
habit of checking your blood sugars as soon as possible, this
will give you an idea of what your blood sugars were like
overnight. Be sure to keep track of your blood sugar levels
using a journal throughout the day to monitor how well your
diabetes is controlled from day to day.
Start your day off right with a nutritious breakfast consisting
of foods from each food group such as fruits and vegetables,
whole grains, lean protein, and some healthy fats. A quick and
easy breakfast example would be scrambled eggs, oatmeal
with low-fat milk, or a fruit and yogourt parfait. Remember to
check your blood sugar levels after each meal.
Be mindful and remember to
take any medications that
were prescribed to you by
your doctor. Life can get
busy which can make
remembering to take
your medications hard.
Tip
Keep your
medications next
to your toothbrush
so you do not
forget to take
them.
