M.J.: If you could spend a day chatting with any
two people (dead or alive), who would you choose
and why?
Greg: One person that I would love to talk to is my
late father, George Lewis. Leaving us at an early age
had a great effect on me. However, it allowed me
to choose my own career path. I often wonder, even
to this day, what would my relationship be like with
my creative father? Would we be in an art practice
together? Anyway, that is one person.
Also, I would like to speak with Marc Chagall, the
Russian artist who was so prolific in his artwork that
there is a museum in France with his name on it. And
his work in both North America and Europe — the
stained glass in the Paris Opera House, mosaics in the
Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, set design, paintings,
prints — has had such an effect on my work.
Both Chagall’s love for life and the freedom to express
it, and Matisse, whom I talked about earlier, have
inspired me, along with many others, for their multiuse
art process.
