M.J.: What is the best piece of advice you were ever
given regarding your art?
Greg: There are two pieces of advice given to me early on
in my career. One was from a former college professor of
mine who said, “Greg, if I teach you, you’re going to learn;
if I show you, you’re going to understand; but if I involve
you, you’re going to remember.”
The other bit of advice given to me is that your best art will
always lie ahead of you. This is so true for me in my fourth
and soon to be fifth decade in contemporary art and design.
I never thought I would do the things that I have done and
all these years, from teaching to working in multiple media.

M.J.: What’s next for you?
Greg: Right now, the Oregon Society of Artists, OSA, (I
am the volunteer Artistic Director of all exhibit installations
there), has gone online with their classes and programs.
However, my monthly public art talks there, the “Art
Without Passports” series, are on hold right now due to
COVID-19. We plan to resume those when restrictions
loosen up a bit.
I also have classes in basic drawing, composition, and
art history scheduled at OSA this fall. We don’t have
exact dates yet, but keep an eye on my website —
GregLewisStudios.net, and at OSArtists.org. They’ll be on
there soon!
