ome of West’s favorite artists include Impressionists, both European and American, and
painters Mary Whyte and Bev Jozwiak among others. West says, “Mary Whyte is primarily a
portrait artist based in South Carolina.  Her work is legendry and I absolutely love the way she
always portrays her subjects in a story-like fashion in their natural surrounding … with some
descriptive elements, never just a static likeness.”
West belongs to a painting group that was begun by Pauline Haas, long-time
Whitworth faculty member and mentor to many artists. This group gets together
to critique one another’s art and provides a loving and supportive environment
for the other artists.
