TERRAIN ’ S ANNUAL ARTS BAZAAR EVENT AIMS TO SUPPORT LOCAL
ARTS ECONOMY
BY MELODY FYRE
Terrain , Spokane ’ s local groundbreaking non-profit , claims that in the Inland Northwest , spending for the visual arts is a mere 36 percent of the national average . Many groups in Spokane have been working hard in the last ten years to change this , attempting to make the local art scene significantly more diverse and accessible . A simple walk around the city shows you the results of our combined efforts . Art Chowder is among those using our platform to give Pacific Northwest artists a voice on the national scale , but Terrain is far from the only one contributing to this regional culture shift . 2020 hit artists hard , but the results of a local push for a more robust arts presence can be seen and felt . Stores new and old that partner with local artists are more prominent than I ’ ve ever seen them — as are murals , drag shows , farmers and artists markets , local festivals and events — even concerts and live music are coming back to the city after the COVID-19 shutdowns .
