sculptures , so we ’ ll see where that goes . I am also planning to pick up working on my graphic novel over the winter for a change of pace . The variety keeps me looking at things from different angles and thinking creatively in more ways .”
“ Milkweed and Monarchs ”
For Battista , inspiration isn ’ t confined to a single source ; it is an ever-evolving blend of prompts , stories , and the world around her . She often finds her art ideas born from stories that take root in her mind , enriching her work with narrative depth . Additionally , installation sites serve as catalysts , igniting the spark for a piece . The fusion of site-specific elements and client preferences fuels her imaginative process . “ I also love collaborating and figuring out how multiple factors can connect . For instance , one of my early mural commissions was for a low concrete wall by the client ’ s pool . I proposed a giant octopus because I thought it would be fun and colorful and fill the space well ; they ’ re fascinating creatures , and it seemed thematic for a swimming area . The client loved the idea and requested a few meaningful details : a 10-legged starfish they ’ d seen on vacation , that the octopus be holding a Pabst Blue Ribbon can , and a ... praying mantis . It was really important to them , and I painted a large praying mantis on a wrapped corner and incorporated these
