Post Falls , Idaho elightfully quirky , intelligent , adventurous , and just plain fun to talk with , Angela M . Sanders puts all of that into her multiple cozy mystery series : the “ Witch Way Librarian ” series , the “ Joanna Hayworth Vintage Clothing Mysteries ,” “ The Booster Club Capers ,” and — using the pen name Clover Tate — “ The Kite Shop Mysteries .”
Having grown up in rural California , Angela spent much of her childhood running around in the woods and reading everything she could get her hands on . A self-described devotee of The Weekly Reader and Nancy Drew mysteries , she has fond memories of grade school book sales and visits to the local library . She also remembers reading her first Nancy Drew book .
“ The first one that I read was “ The Mystery of The Hidden Staircase ,” because that was the one my mother had . I can see it clear as day in my mind . There were so many Nancy Drew novels and I grew to love Nancy Drew because she could tap dance , speak French , knew Morse code , drove a roadster , and her mother was dead so she had a lot of freedom .”
Still an avid reader , Sanders adores vintage detective novels . She confesses “ especially those with a touch of screwball comedy . Some of my favorite authors in that genre are Delano Ames , Alice Tilton , and Craig Rice . Gypsy Lee Rose also wrote two terrific mysteries ! I ’ ll also read anything by Anthony Horowitz , and I ’ ve really enjoyed Richard Osman ’ s ‘ Thursday Murder Club ’ series .
“ I also love the works of Jane Austen . ‘ Persuasion ’ is my favorite of her books . That one does not have as much humor as the other books , but I think it has the most longing in it . Some people say ‘ Emma ’ is the perfect novel , but I like ‘ Northanger Abbey .’ I think it ’ s so funny and I totally relate to the protagonist , you know , making all her mistakes because she ’ s such a romantic at heart .”
