A
fter five years of high-tech employment and subsequently
witnessing that the industry was going through somewhat of a
down period, Scott began to feel a yearning for more earthly
pursuits. In a 180-degree change of direction he relocated to
the big skies of rural Montana to become a partner in a quarter
horse ranch. It was here that he acquired his construction skills
in framing, roofing, dry walling, plastering and painting whilst
expanding the ranch’s barns, buildings and stabling facilities.
After what appeared to be a promising start the ranch wasn’t
living up to Scott’s expectations, so after about 18 months he
elected to head back to the Tri-Cities. Just before that, he took
some time out for a short break to unwind in Bend, Oregon
with another of his passions, skiing. I mention this knowing
that although skiing is regarded as more of a sport than a trade
skill, it’s still yet another string to one of Scott’s many bows.
