Akiane: Usually, it varies, but most
of the time I listen to educational,
medical and language podcasts.
MJ: Your website says you love to
travel; that you find inspiration
in nature and solitude. What else
inspires you?
Akiane: Since I grew up without any
extended family, every day my contact
with people became more important
to me than to most children who are
usually surrounded by their relatives.
Being with my family and friends and
visiting unique cultural festivals and
performances are a huge inspiration
for me.
MJ: Do you have any hobbies?
Akiane: Yes, I do have many hobbies!
Filming; photography; going on
unique adventures around the world;
cooking; biking and learning new
languages!
MJ: I love cooking and baking
too. What is your favorite dish to
create?
Akiane: Oh, I’ve only recently
started baking, but I cook for my
family nearly every day. I love to
make comfort food: soups, stir fry,
etc. Eggplant Parmesan and chicken
cordon bleu are good. I really enjoy
fusion cuisine. I like to blend flavors
from countries like Japan, Korea, and
India.
MJ: What makes you sad?
Akiane: What makes me most sad is the fact I never get the chance to help more people
or meet the rest of my close relatives. Growing up with just my immediate family I never
understood the meaning of having grandparents or the role they can play in your life. I
wish I had the chance to learn from them.
MJ: Sounds good to me. What
makes you laugh with joy?
Akiane: When I play ping pong with
my little brother. He always makes me
laugh, in a way I cannot describe. He
has such a cheerful, lighthearted and
giving heart.
MJ: Many times people come into our lives to fill those kinds of gaps. Have you met
anyone to “adopt” as grandparents?
Akiane: Oh, I have met many wonderful people! During my recent travels, I met an
elderly Korean gentleman. He was 91, I believe. We met while in the park and struck
up a conversation. He was very sweet and told me, “I want you to think of me as your
Korean grandfather.” So, yes, I have “adopted” some people along the way and since
my early teens, I have wanted to adopt four kids. I’m not sure why I want four, but I do.
