A nnie’s understanding of and respect for her medium grew exponentially when she worked at Tandy Leather in Spokane, but it was also because of this job that she grew as an artist, too. She had gone to an art school and learned what you might expect an art student to learn, yet still found herself freezing in front of a blank canvas, thinking, “What if I mess up? What if I can never get it to look right?” She told me she would drive her teachers mad with her hesitation — “Just do something!” So when a manager of hers at Tandy called to say she should enter the leather crafting contest in the Rocky Mountain Trade Show in Sheridan, Wyoming — that the deadline was tomorrow but that was only for the application so she should totally go for it — there was no time to hesitate.
