Juana with her sons,
Emmanuel and Christian.
A Mother Can Feed Her Kids,
Thanks to You
Juana’s two sons — Emmanuel,
10, and Christian, 12 — attend
Sam Houston Elementary in
Dallas. While they’re at school,
Juana stays home caring for their
baby sister, Sofia, who’s nearly 2.
Right now, Juana’s husband
is the family’s sole provider.
Because he works in
construction, money can be
tight when he’s between jobs
or if there’s a long string of bad
weather stalling a project. This
lack of steady income makes
it difficult for Juana to afford
enough groceries each month.
Even though her boys can now
access school meals during most
of the week, Juana still has to find
a way to feed them on evenings
and weekends. And thanks to
you, there’s a simple solution.
Whenever her family is
running low on groceries,
Juana supplements their food
budget by visiting the pantry
at Emmanuel and Christian’s
school. Through this program,
which was created through
your support of the North Texas
Food Bank, Juana picks up the
nutritious fruits, vegetables and
other items she needs to make
balanced meals for her family.
Juana can also use one of the
many recipes pantry volunteers
pass out along with the food.
She loves to make her little ones
a healthy sauté that uses squash,
garlic, onions and cilantro.

“I’m so thankful.”
Having nutritious, balanced
meals on the table is so important
for a child’s development and
well-being. Without access to
enough healthy food, Emmanuel
and Christian have problems
concentrating at school and
would be at risk for behavioral
issues and illness.
It’s a comfort for Juana to be
able to fill her family’s table with
wholesome meals. She struggles
to find the words to express her
gratitude for your support.
“I’m so thankful,” Juana says,
with sincerity.
