“I know she’s going to get taken
care of really well here,” Nancy
says, smiling down at her little
girl, Klia, 8.
Nancy is picking her daughter
up from the after-school program
at Voice of Hope Ministries, a
member of the North Texas Food
Bank’s Partner Agency Network
in Dallas. Every weekday
afternoon, Klia gets homework
help, is able to engage in fun
activities and sits down to a
balanced meal at the program.
Nancy is a single mom and
works long hours as a nurse in
Carrollton. She usually doesn’t
get home until late, so it gives
her peace of mind to know her
daughter has a healthy meal
each evening.
Klia also learns about why good
nutrition is important and shares
that knowledge with her older
brothers, ages 14 and 16. Nancy
says it’s sometimes difficult to
get her kids to eat healthy foods,
so she really appreciates the
nutrition education.
This summer, Klia is enrolled
in Voice of Hope’s day camp,
which will provide her with
three meals each day. This
program is especially beneficial
for kids who typically depend
on school meal programs during
the academic year.

damage a child’s health for years

kids have more energy, are
better able to focus and are
at lower risk for illness and
developmental delays.
Nancy understands the need for
food assistance in her community
and knows many of Klia’s peers
wouldn’t have enough to eat if
