In the Spotlight:

Meet the mom behind

Fitnessmomwinecountry

One of the reasons we love healthy bloggers so much is there ability to inspire and motivate us through their simple day-to-day actions. Lynda Benson from FitnessMomWineCountry is no exception. In fact, she might be the defining example of what healthy living can and should look like.

From sharing delicious recipes to dishing on her latest workout, Lynda has a go get'em attitude we can't help but admire. And as a mother of three, you can't help but wonder how she does it all.

Lynda shares a few insights with us on how she got started as a healthy blogger and shares with us how everyday moments can be engaging, health-promoting ones if we let them be.

What Motivated You To Start Blogging? I have read this question and thought on it, and can't really pin-point what my main motivation was. I do know that I had started Fitnessmomwinecountry as a facebook page and from there slowly {very slowly} learned my way around that and from there started hearing and learning more about social media. Hence, the blogging came in. I was familiar with blogs and really enjoyed following and reading many of them, whether about fitness, food, or moms.

I came to the conclusion that blogging meant you really needed to have a talent, you needed to be able to engage with others, you needed to know how to write. Well I thought "no way" can I do that. Although the inner voice inside me was screaming "YES, YES you can; you must try this Lynda". I love people, I love to talk and I have always had a passion for writing, I just never imagined anyone would want to read or hear about I had to say.

Knowing that I have no certification in anything (expect my business diploma from Heald College), I wondered what I actually could write about and not sound completely lost. This is when the "light went on" - my family. This was it; how easy, how fun and how (hopefully) inspiring and possibly entertaining it could be.

My first post was an introduction and when I saw people reacting and commenting and following along, I realized that I was smart enough and talented enough to continue forward. Stepping out of the comfort zone was a HUGE thing. I stepped out and I am so happy I did. From that point on, it was all about sharing my own journey and sharing my family as we live. Just your normal family living in today's world but maintaining a healthy lifestyle and always learning about our food and how and what we eat.

Do you and your family spend a lot of time together in the kitchen?

Yes, yes we do. It has gotten easier for me as I have learned to let go of "controlling" the kitchen. Knowing that it is okay to make a mess and it's okay to get an egg shell in the pancake batter or it's okay if we burn something. I take the kids as often as possible to the market with me so they get a better understanding of what we are purchasing, budget and fresh healthy food. Sure we stop for the chips or ice cream and I do every so often let my kids eat frozen raviolis or fish sticks (they are kids after all), but they really understand the basics.
